Findb is in pre-launch. These terms will be updated before the app opens to the public.
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Findb ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you use the Findb app, our website at findb.co, or contact us. Findb is based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). We've tried to write this policy in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@findb.co.
This policy should be read with our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.
What we collect
We only collect personal information that we reasonably need to run Findb. Most of it comes directly from you. Some comes from our service providers, or from other members (for example, when someone reviews you or reports a problem).
Account information
Your name, email address, mobile number, date of birth (to confirm you're 18 or over), password or sign-in details, and the city you're in.
Profile information
Your profile photo (which is mandatory), a short bio, your interests, the plans you host or join, your ratings, reviews and host level, and any badges such as Findb PRO. If you apply to become a PRO, we also collect the information you give us in your application.
Verification (selfie check)
To join or host plans, you complete a selfie check. You take a live selfie in the app, and our third-party identity verification provider compares it with your profile photo. To do this, the provider creates a biometric template, a mathematical representation of facial features, from both images. Biometric information used for verification is sensitive information under the Privacy Act, and we only collect it with your express consent (see Sensitive information and consent).
We receive the result of the check (match or no match) and related details such as the date and time. We do not ask for or collect photo ID.
We ask our provider to delete biometric templates once the verification is complete, unless they need to be kept for longer to meet a legal obligation, to investigate suspected fraud, or to resolve a dispute about the check. We may keep the live selfie image for a limited period so we can deal with verification questions or safety reports, and then delete it.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. When you pay for a plan, Stripe collects your card details directly. We don't store full card numbers. We receive limited information from Stripe, such as the last four digits of your card, the card type, transaction amounts and payment status. If you're a host receiving payouts, Stripe collects the identity and bank details it needs to verify you and pay you, and shares limited details with us, such as your payout status.
If you subscribe to Findb Plus, Apple or Google handles your payment. We receive confirmation of your subscription status, not your card details.
Plans and messages
Details of plans you create, request to join or attend; group chat messages; check-ins; ratings and reviews; reports you make or that are made about you; blocks; and your communications with us. If you choose to set up a trusted contact, we collect their name and contact details so we can notify them when you check in. Please let them know before you add them.
Device and usage information
When you use the app or website, we automatically collect technical information such as your device type, operating system, app version, IP address, general location derived from your IP address or the city you've chosen, crash reports, and how you use Findb (for example, the screens you view and the features you use). If you allow it, we may use your device's location to show plans near you. We don't track the live location of other people, and we don't show your precise location to other members.
Website forms
While Findb is in pre-launch, our website collects:
- Sign-up details: name, email, mobile, city, interests and the role you're interested in (for example, member, host or PRO).
- Contact form messages: your name, email and whatever you choose to tell us.
- PRO applications: the details you provide about yourself and your hosting.
- Venue partner enquiries: your name, business details and contact information.
- Investor enquiries: your name, organisation, contact details and message.
How we use it
We use personal information to:
- Create and manage your account and verify that you're 18 or over.
- Run the selfie check and show your verified status to other members.
- Show you plans, let you request to join or host plans, and connect you with hosts and other members.
- Process payments, refunds, payouts and subscriptions, and prevent payment fraud.
- Run group chats, check-ins, trusted contact notifications, ratings, reviews and host levels.
- Keep Findb safe: investigate reports, prevent fake accounts, scams and misuse, and enforce our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.
- Review PRO applications and partner venue enquiries.
- Respond to your questions and requests, and send you service messages (for example, booking confirmations, plan updates and security alerts).
- Keep you updated about our launch and send marketing, if you've agreed to receive it.
- Understand how Findb is used so we can fix problems and improve the app and website.
- Meet our legal obligations and establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We won't use your personal information for an unrelated purpose unless you'd reasonably expect it, you've consented, or the law allows or requires it.
Sensitive information and consent
Under the Privacy Act, biometric information used for automated verification and biometric templates are sensitive information. We only collect them for the selfie check, and only with your express consent.
Before you start the selfie check, we'll explain what happens and ask you to agree. You can choose not to consent. If you don't, you can still browse plans, but you won't be able to join or host them, because verification is how we help members trust each other.
You can withdraw your consent by contacting us. If you do, we'll stop using your biometric information for verification and ask our provider to delete any they still hold, but your profile will no longer be verified.
We don't ask for other sensitive information, such as health, religious or political information. Please don't include it in your profile, plans or messages unless you're comfortable with others seeing it. If you choose to tell a host about a medical condition so they can keep you safe, that's shared with the host at your choice.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only as described below.
Other members
- Your profile basics (first name, profile photo, bio, interests, verified status, badges, host level, ratings and reviews) can be seen by other members.
- When you request to join a plan, the host sees your profile and your request.
- When you're going to a plan, other people going to that plan may see your profile and messages in the group chat. Findb Plus members can see who's going to a plan.
- Your email address, mobile number and date of birth are not shown to other members.
Service providers
We use trusted service providers to help us run Findb, including our identity verification provider, Stripe (payments), cloud hosting and storage, email and SMS delivery, customer support tools, analytics and crash reporting. They may only use your information to provide services to us and must protect it.
Partner venues
If a host books a partner venue or claims a group perk, we may share limited details needed for the booking, such as the host's name and group size. We don't share members' details with partner venues for their own marketing.
Legal, safety and business reasons
- With police, courts, regulators or other authorities where the law requires or allows it, or where we reasonably believe it's necessary to prevent a serious threat to someone's life, health or safety.
- With your trusted contact, if you've set one up, when you check in.
- With professional advisers such as lawyers, accountants and auditors.
- With a buyer, investor or successor if we're involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, on the condition that they protect your information in line with this policy.
Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia. In particular, providers such as Stripe, our cloud hosting, email and identity verification providers may store or process information in the United States, and some may use facilities in other countries.
Before we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient handles it in a way that's consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, such as choosing reputable providers and putting appropriate contractual protections in place. You can contact us for more information about where your information is held.
Marketing and your choices
We'll only send you marketing emails or SMS messages if you've agreed to receive them, in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Every marketing message will identify us and include a simple way to unsubscribe, an unsubscribe link in emails, or replying STOP to SMS. You can also opt out at any time by emailing hello@findb.co.
Even if you opt out of marketing, we may still send you service messages about your account, bookings, payments and safety, because you need these to use Findb.
In the app, you can manage push notifications in your device settings, and control who can see some of your profile details in your Findb settings.
Cookies and analytics on the website
We keep tracking on our website to a minimum. We use essential browser storage (such as cookies and local storage) to make forms work, remember your preferences and keep the site secure. We may use privacy-friendly analytics to understand overall visitor numbers and which pages are popular, which helps us improve the site.
We don't use advertising cookies or sell website data to advertisers. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site, such as forms, may not work properly if you do. If we introduce any non-essential cookies in future, we'll update this policy and give you a choice where required.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, change or disclosure. These include encryption of data in transit, access controls that limit staff and providers to the information they need, secure hosting, and regular review of our practices.
No system is completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your login details private. If we become aware of a data breach that's likely to result in serious harm, we'll notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or as required by law. For example:
- Account and profile information is kept while your account is open. When you close your account, we delete or de-identify it within a reasonable period, except for information we need to keep.
- Biometric templates are subject to deletion by our provider once verification is complete, as described above.
- Transaction records are kept for as long as tax and financial laws require (usually seven years).
- Reports, enforcement records and information about removed accounts may be kept for longer to keep the community safe and prevent people from rejoining after being removed.
- Messages and reviews you've shared with others may remain visible to them after you leave, though your name may be removed.
- Pre-launch website sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe, ask us to delete them, or they're no longer needed.
Access and correction
You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it's inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading. You can update most of your details directly in the app. For anything else, email hello@findb.co.
We'll need to confirm your identity before we act on your request. We'll respond within 30 days. We won't charge you for asking, though we may charge a reasonable fee for providing access if a request is unusually large. If we refuse a request, we'll tell you why and how to complain.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, please contact us first at hello@findb.co with the details. We'll acknowledge your complaint promptly, look into it, and aim to respond within 30 days.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):
- Website: oaic.gov.au
- Phone: 1300 363 992
Children
Findb is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account or given us their details, we'll close the account and delete their information. If you think this has happened, please let us know.
Changes
We'll update this policy as Findb develops, including before the app opens to the public. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know in the app, by email or on our website. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
